Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers

Affordable rental housing in Bellevue

KCHA's waiting list for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers is closed

Using a random lottery drawing, 2,500 applicants were chosen for the current list in March 2020. We notified these applicants with printed letters and emails sent in the last week of March 2020. If you are on the current waiting list and your contact information changes, please let us know using the Application Change Form.

We do not know when the waiting list will re-open in the future.

Housing Choice Vouchers are funded by the federal government. KCHA manages this federal program, and has a limited number of vouchers to distribute.

About Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers

Housing Choice Vouchers help people with lower incomes rent homes from landlords across the King County rental housing market (not including Seattle or Renton). The voucher is a subsidy that an individual or family can use to rent a unit from any landlord who meets the program requirements. Once you have had your voucher for at least a year, you may use it to rent anywhere in the United States.

With a voucher, you pay around 30 percent of your household income for rent and utilities. KCHA pays the difference between how much you pay and what the landlord would usually charge for rent.

If you already have a voucher, visit the Residents section.

If you manage a property and would like to rent to people who have a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, visit the Landlords section.
