Housing Options in Auburn

The King County Housing Authority provides the following rental housing and rental assistance programs in Auburn.

Please note: This list is only an overview. KCHA's housing search tool can give you a better estimate of your eligibility based on your family size, income, and housing preferences.

Section 8 Vouchers

Section 8 vouchers help people with low incomes rent homes on the private market. With a voucher, you pay at least 28 percent, but not more than 40 percent (in the first year), of household income for rent and utilities. KCHA pays the difference between your portion of the rent and the amount your landlord requests. Learn about Section 8 vouchers.

Subsidized Housing

Subsidized housing – which includes public housing – helps people with low incomes rent apartments they can afford. In most cases, they pay no more than 30 percent of their household's monthly income for rent and utilities. KCHA owns and manages nearly all of this type of housing and many communities offer on-site social services. Learn about subsidized housing.

Burndale Homes

Large apartments with patios, broad lawns, new roofs and thermal windows. Many services are available on site, including the Auburn Food Bank and the Burndale Technology Learning Center, which offers homework help, a summer lunch program, arts and crafts, computer classes and youth field trips. Burndale is close to the Auburn North Shopping Center and other stores on Auburn Way.

House-like apartments, in a variety of sizes, surrounding a broad courtyard that includes a playground and swings. The Auburn Boys & Girls Club provides youth programs on site. Firwood Circle is located on a quiet, wooded street in southern Auburn, within a couple of blocks of Mt. Baker Middle School. White River Junction, a shopping plaza, is nearby on A Street.

Comfortable apartments in the heart of downtown Auburn. Gustaves features new thermal windows and warm, updated common areas, including a community room. In 2007, the building underwent renovations that added new doors to each unit and new hallway lighting. Units are equipped with sophisticated fire safety equipment, including sprinklers. Environmentally friendly solar panels provide some of the building's electricity.

Northwood Square offers spacious two- and three-bedroom townhouse-style apartments near Auburn Way. The property is near a number of city parks, including Veterans Memorial Park and Les Gove Park, and is conveniently close to Sound Transit's Auburn Station for the Sounder train. Fred Meyer, Office Depot, Big 5, Rite Aid, Walgreens and other shopping all located within walking distance.

Other Rental Housing

KCHA's other rental housing helps people with low incomes rent apartments they can afford. Some tenants pay a percentage of their income toward rent each month, while others pay a flat rent amount. Meadows on Lea Hill

The Meadows on Lea Hill offers quiet, contemporary living with easy access to freeways, shopping and schools. A swimming pool, basketball court and a new playground all can be found within its manicured grounds, and two convenience stores are within walking distance. Meadows’ comfortable apartments and common areas have been recently renovated, offering a freshly updated and bright community. Each unit has its own deck, and there are convenient common area laundry facilities.

Valley Park

Comfortable, refurbished apartments with large lawns in Auburn. The complex features two sets of attractive single-story duplexes, Valley Park West by Terminal Park and Terminal Park Elementary School and Valley Park East by Les Gove Park, a city facility with athletic fields, trails and a wading pool. Valley Park East also offers a playground.

Moderate-Income Housing

KCHA's moderate-income housing serves people who can pay rent priced closer to normal market rates. Tenants pay a flat rent amount each month, not a percentage of their income. Private companies manage this type of housing. Learn about moderate-income housing.

Auburn Square

Spacious apartments in a quiet, park-like setting. Located in North Auburn, the complex is four blocks from shopping and services. Each apartment is equipped with an in-unit washer and dryer, along with a balcony or patio. Auburn features a fine park system, including nearby Brannan Park, and outlet stores clustered at the SuperMall. Other city attractions include Emerald Downs and the White River Amphitheatre.
