Section 8 Vouchers

Section 8 vouchers help people with low incomes rent homes on the private market. With a voucher, you pay at least 28 percent, but not more than 40 percent (in the first year), of household income for rent and utilities. KCHA pays the difference between your portion of the rent and the amount your landlord requests. Learn about Section 8 vouchers.

Subsidized Housing

Subsidized housing – which includes public housing – helps people with low incomes rent apartments they can afford. In most cases, they pay no more than 30 percent of their household's monthly income for rent and utilities. Other Rental Housing

KCHA's other rental housing helps people with low incomes rent apartments they can afford. Some tenants pay a percentage of their income toward rent each month, while others pay a flat rent amount. Moderate-Income Housing

KCHA's moderate-income housing serves people who can pay rent priced closer to normal market rates. Tenants pay a flat rent amount each month, not a percentage of their income. Private companies manage this type of housing. Learn about moderate-income housing.
